Student Life

During FSSP, you’ll live on campus, meet other first-year students, and establish your routine at UC Santa Barbara. With peer mentors by your side and a calendar of activities, you’ll get involved, settle in, and feel at home before the Fall Quarter begins.

Build Your Community

Welcome Weekend

FSSP begins with Welcome Weekend, when you move in and get oriented to the program. This includes community-building activities, friendly competitions like Battle of the Floors, and a beach day. It’s your first opportunity to form friendships and learn how FSSP works.

Choose Your Adventure

Shape your experience by attending events connected to different emphases, including Academics, Leadership, Athletics, Leisure, and First-Gen. These activities make it easy to meet peers with similar interests while exploring campus resources that align with your goals.

Social Events

Much of FSSP happens right where you live. From game nights in San Nic to surf lessons, karaoke sing-offs, and guided outings to discover campus gems, you’ll have many opportunities to connect, relax, and explore with your peers.

Health and Wellness

FSSP encourages you to build habits that support your physical, mental, and social well-being. Throughout the summer, you’ll learn about campus wellness resources, explore options at the RecCen, and develop strategies to help you succeed throughout college.

Housing & Meals

As an FSSP student, you'll live in San Nicolas Residence Hall, overlooking the lagoon and the Pacific Ocean. It is conveniently near classrooms, the De La Guerra Dining Hall, the UCen, and the Library, with easy access to recreation rooms, sand volleyball courts, and community lounges.

Program participants also enjoy a meal plan that includes 17 meals per week, redeemable at De La Guerra Commons. Please note: If you have a Fall housing contract will remain in their FSSP housing assignment for the duration of the academic year.
